Team Legacy Shines at 2012 Salt Lake Slam National Tournament

Heber City, Utah - Team Legacy traveled to Heber City, Utah to compete at the 2012 annual Salt Lake Slam national wrestling tournament. The Salt Lake Slam was much bigger this year than it has been in past years exceeding 900 competitors.
Competition was intense with state and national champions traveling from all over the country to participate. Most brackets had multiple national champions competing giving Team Legacy the opportunity to test and sharpen their skills.
The newer members of the team led out wrestling Friday night. Brayden Christiansen and Braden Millward wrestled well both taking 3rd in their Flyweight brackets. Their coaches and families were pleased not only with how hard they worked but also about the excitement they showed.
Ryder Robinson was Team Legacy's lone Bantam competitor and he continued the great trend started by the flyweights. Ryder won a critical match in overtime to gain a 3rd place finish making his team proud.
Ridgerton Martinez and Ezay Castillo wrestled as true beginners in the intermediate division. Both fought hard representing the team well and learning critical lessons to bring back to the practice room with them.
Enryque Castillo won Team Legacy's first championship of the tournament battling his way to a first place finish in the novice true beginner division. Enryque dominated his bracket with 2 pins and a convincing 6 - 0 decision.
Saturday morning Team Legacy's intermediate athletes successfully defended last year's team trophy to bring it home again for 2012. Event organizers commented that if Team Legacy had had 1 less win the trophy would have gone to the 2nd place team. The participation of every athlete was critical to win this team honor.
Drew Lang and Will Manning started the team's action Saturday morning in the intermediate 55lbs bracket. Both athletes wrestled hard working their way through the 32 man bracket and at the end of the day Drew brought home a hard fought 2nd place finish and Will gutted out a 6th place finish.
Jaden Stange, Will Haight, River Wardle, and Josh Millward followed soon after in the intermediate 60lbs bracket. Just as with every other bracket this one was loaded with state and national champions all vying for 1st place. Each boy fought hard accumulating victories and critical points for the team defending the team title.
Jaden was the first of the team to wrestle in this bracket. Jaden accumulated 3 hard fought victories contributing to the team championship. Jaden showed power and skill coming very close to placing.
